Everything You Should Know About Wedding Dress Shopping

Congratulations...this is the most exciting time of your life! After you've set a date and hopefully have selected the venue now comes the fun part, selecting your wedding dress. First things first, the more organized you become the better, so I suggest creating your dress

fitting timeline at the beginning of the shopping process.

Welcome to part one of my four part series! Follow along with me every week where I'll guide you to your perfect dress with important tips you can use.

First comes selecting the silhouette and style dress you want to wear for your wedding day. Maybe you even want to wear a second dress for your reception, so decide that now to maximize each shopping trip.

An A-line style dress is classy and sophisticated. It's fitted in the bodice then flares out with an a-shaped skirt from waist to hem.

If you'd like to make a dramatic entrance, then a Ball Gown style has your name written all over it!This dress is also fitted in the bodice, with a natural or basque waist, but has a bold, full sweeping skirt.

Fit & Flare is definitely a Millennial favorite! It's very body conscious and hugs your figure with a fitted bodice and a skirt that flares slightly below the hips or thighs. It's the perfect style if you like more simplicity on the top and a little more drama on the bottom!

Let's end with the classic Sheath silhouette. It's a slim figure-following style with usually little to no flare at the skirt. This type of gown is glamorous and ideal for a Black-tie wedding and lends itself to some great jewelry and accessories!

There you have it, the four basic wedding dress silhouettes to get you started. Some important things to remember when you go shopping: take your shoes you'll be wearing on your wedding day or some high heels, that way you can get an idea of the length and what's comfortable to walk in. Also, invest in the proper undergarments...bras, waist shapers, etc. so that you'll have a smooth line while wearing your dress.

And finally, I recommend that you only bring one or two people to your first dress shopping excursion. Get your own thoughts and preferences together without being influenced by too many people like your next door neighbor! There's plenty of time to invite them at your next fitting. Demetrios Bridal Salons can be found at select Macy's stores.
